Elegant antique display cabinet 1880s, bevelled mirrors in London, Essex for sale

Garden & House

This lovely Victorian display cabinet probably dates to the 1880s. It features eleven discrete display areas altogether, in addition to the two shelves behind the glazed central doors. It looks lovely laden with ceramics and objets d'art, as it might originally have been in an artistic or even Aesthetic home in its first youth. The piece has all its original bevelled mirrors: the large mirror in the centre is flanked by kidney-shaped mirrors on either side, and a wide elliptical behind the central shelf. It would originally have been ebonised, with a black lacquer finish. It appears to be made predominantly of beech, and has at some point been stripped and lightly stained to a middling shade of walnut; it could of course be refinished in any number of ways. There is a stepped shelf across the centre of the piece, with the small wide mirror behind the central section. Above this, there is a narrow shaped shelf below the large shield-shaped mirror, with brackets on either side of the mirror. The lower portion features two shelves behind glazed doors, with a wide drawer above, and a wide shaped shelf right across the bottom. There are shaped display shelves on either side of the doors, each with a slightly smaller bracket above. It measures 48 in. (122 cm) at the widest point, and stands 80 in. (203 cm) to the very top of the ornate crown, and 41 in. (104 cm) to the central shelf above the drawer. It has at least once been dismantled into two pieces for easier transport. It can be collected from Willesden Green, virtually any time, by arrangement.
