Ovation 1862 Custom Balladeer Limited from 1981 in London, Essex for sale
One of the perks of searching for great guitars is that I get to test them out on-stage, in the recording studio and at other types of gigs. And over the last few months, I’ve run this Custom Balladeer 6-string through it’s paces! This was the perfect guitar for me to have because I was leading the group and I needed an instrument that would powerfully cut through the mix when I needed to lead the ensemble in a new direction. It’s chime-like tone is very bright and pleasant like most Ovation 6’s. And like most Ovation 6's, it stays in tune! (I had a other brands that went out of tune when I breathed on it). Live, the guitar is a power-house. If anything, the pickup has to be tamed so that the sound didn’t overwhelm the duo I was playing with. I played it through an LL Baggs DI and shaped the sound nicely. These old Ovations didn’t have modern EQ controls, so I always recommend something to EQ the guitar. The Baggs also has a notch filter which is very helpful. But back to the guitar… There are no dings, scratches or cracks. I’d have to call this “mint condition”. When I bought the guitar, it came with the original hard shell case, but it was in pretty shoddy condition. Accordingly, I purchased a Hard Gig Bag that’s very durable and comfortable when it’s worn like a backpack. This set me back 60GBP, but I wanted to hook the new owner up with a great case for this great guitar. Something that makes this guitar unique is the factory color, as you can see it's very difficult to find...
