RETRO 1990s CLAUD BUTLER MTB - REYNOLDS FRAME in London, Essex for sale

RETRO CLAUD BUTLER MTB REYNOLDS 500 FRAME – SHIMANO GROUPSET Hi, I’m selling this lovely example of an early 90’s MTB which has clearly not seen very much action in it’s life. The bike’s specification is almost exactly the same as when it left the factory except I’ve replaced the saddle with a slightly more modern Giant Concept as the old one had a split in it and I’ve upgraded the pedals with an alloy, period-specific MKS pair. The frame is made of Reynolds 500 tubing which although comes in towards the lower end of the range is still a nice badge to have on a retro machine. The deep purple polishes up beautifully although there are some light scratches in places(the worst being towards the top of the left hand rear stays- you may be able to see them in the photo). That said, with the contrasting lime green decals it still a very pretty old-school bike. The groupset is Shimano’s 21 speed Altus C10 set which was on sale in 1993 which helps date the bicycle more precisely. As mentioned above, this bike clearly hasn’t seen much use as the brakes and the gears are very smooth and precise as they would have been when new. The wheels are true and the Shimano Exage hubs spin freely with no play in them. There is slight oxidation on the handlebar stem. One aspect of these older bikes I really like is the lack of suspension, keeping the weight down but at the same time making them a lot more responsive(especially out of the saddle), making them ideal for road or trail use – where most MTBs these days are ridden. The Seat Tube measures 50cm centre to top (48.5cm centre to centre) The top tube measures 55cm centre to centre So that’s it, a pretty, retro MTB which doesn’t look or ride as though it’s over 20 years old.
